General description of the collection: The John B. Coulter photograph collection reflects the military career and activities of Lieutenant General Coulter. There is one portrait of him about 1918, with the next photos being in a family album from the late 1930s. The next grouping of photos is from when he was deputy commander of 8th Army in Korea in 1951. This is not a large group, but shows activities and V.I.P.s in Korea at that time. There are numerous portraits of General Coulter throughout his career and many photos of him and his wife at functions following his retirement. Many photos of family and friends are included in the collection.

John Breitling Coulter (1891-1983) was born in San Antonio, Texas. He commissioned in the cavalry in 1912 and served as an aide-de-camp to Brig. Gen. William A. Mann in 1916. In World War I, he did a tour of duty in France with the 808th Infantry. He graduated from Command and General Staff School in 1927, the Army War College in 1933, and the Naval War College in 1934. Upon advancing to brigadier general in October 1941, he became commanding general of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Divis...
